If you are anything like me, then you love bagels! The downside to that is that bagels are either expensive, full of preservatives and a list of ingredients that is a shopping list long. I am a fan of knowing what exactly is in my meals and what I am putting into my body.
Over the last few years we have been trying to eat with as little as ingredients as possible. So instead of buying a premade dish that has over 15 ingredients listed I would much rather have Steak with Broccoli and Sweet Potato. Only 3 ingredients! For this bagel recipe, there are only 4 ingredients! Mind you, there are other ingredients in the Greek Yogurt that I use that I am aware of but you can find Greek Yogurt that you enjoy and use whatever works for you.
When I first started making these I thought that making bagels would take loads of time with kneading and waiting for it to rise. That couldn’t have been farther from the truth! These bagels take only 10 – 15 minutes to prep and bake for 25 mintues. Let’s get started!
Ingredients:
2 ¼ Cup of All Purpose Flour
4 tsp of baking powder
1 tsp of salt
1 ½ Cup of Greek Yogurt (Low Fat)
Optional Ingredients:
1 Egg for Egg Wash
Everything Bagel Seasoning for topping
Cheddar Cheese for topping
The Process:
- Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees Ferenheiht.
- Mix all of your dry ingredients together into a bowl.
- Measure out your Greek Yogurt and add it to your mixing bowl.
- Start mixing! This will turn clumpy when you first start to mix. Once that happens it is time to use your hands. Start kneading the dough together until you have a ball of dough.
- Cut the dough into 6 even pieces and roll them out into 10 inch long strips.
- Connect the ends of each strip in the center and pinch the edges together to make the shape of the bagel.
- Once all of the bagels are ready you can choose to add an egg wash to the top.
- If you do take 1 Egg and use the egg whites to brush onto your bagels.
- Add seasoning, Cheddar Cheese or Both!
- Throw them into the oven and let them bake for 25 minutes.
- Once done baking, pull them out and lay them out on a cooking rack for at least 10 minutes.
