Have you ever been in the middle of cleaning your house and when you get to your bathroom you realize you are out of your favorite bathroom cleaner? Whether it is Bleach, Clorox, Lysol or any other cleaning supplies I say this home-made cleaner can rival any of them. Store bought cleaners have harsh chemicals as ingredients, and although they do clean and sanitize your surfaces in your house they can also be very detrimental to your health.
The harmful effects of mixing bleach with other household items can cause chlorine gas which can lead to burning eye membranes, lung injuries and throat damage. Also, using pure bleach without diluting it can be harmful to the skin, eyes and respiratory tract.
These 3 ingredients are usually around the house and are great cleaning agents to use on most surfaces in your home. Not only that, they are cheap!
3 Ingredients:
Water
Soap
Vinegar
The soap is obvious- a cleaning agent that we all use and love every day.
Vinegar is the real winner in this mixture. It is naturally acidic so it can dissolve grease, dirt, grime and other deposits. It is also great at killing bacteria on almost any surface. The best type of vinegar for cleaning is while distilled vinegar. This will prevent against staining any surfaces since it is clear.
The smell of vinegar can be very strong and a lot of people do not like the smell. I am no exception. I will deal with the smell so that I can stay away from toxic bleach and other chemicals. If it truly bothers you, you are able to add essential oils to the mixture with whatever oil you would like. A nice one to add is orange. The smell is very refreshing and can help mix well with the vinegar.
The Mixture:
3 Cups Water
1 Cup Vinegar
1-2 Tbsp of Soap
I whisk all items together and throw my rag into the bowl and go to town wiping down the countertops, bathroom counter, toilet, bathtub, etc.
It is nice clean your home with a cleaner that you know is non-toxic and will disinfect the areas that you most need cleaned.
